Find it out!

Canyelles is a 3.800 inhabitants town, intimate and picturesque, an strategic place for its nature as a bridge between the sea and the mountains, with a natural environment exceptionally appropriate for tours and walks or to go climbing at penya de l’Escofet, also known as the Facu.

Panoramic view of the old quarter

The town can be identified by the monumental ensemble which consists of its castle and church, located up a hill 142 m high, and which can be seen from all town accesses. The castle, which has been recorded from the 15th Century, is a private property today, inhabited during part of the year. Notwithstanding, it is thought that it might have originally been an Olèrdola’s bastion defence tower. Originally, Canyelles Church,
which dates back from 17th Century, had been part of the castle, as it can be deduced
from the existence of the Bouffard’s lord’s shield on its façade.

The way down to Castell Street

Houses from different periods and elements from country life which remind the visitor of a town making its living by agriculture and livestock farming. All this can be found by walking along Canyelles’ old quarter. Although there are other Catalan country houses spread all over the municipality, especial mention has to be made on Can Sàbat (15th Century) and Can Faló (16th Century), located in the town centre.

Town’s Main Festival and Fireworks

Tradition usually involves festive aspects. From the most typical Catalan festivals– cultural week close to Sant Jordi’s Day, the Town’s Main Festival in July on Holy Magdalene’s Day, Town’s Secondary Festival in September on Saint Nicholas’ Day, Saint Lucy’s Day Celebration in December– to the more specific events in Canyelles such as Canyelles Craftwork Fair or the “Puntaires” meeting –people who make a special kind of knitted fabrics– and metal tops from cava bottles in October or the painting contest, in December..
